Hi, I'm Alexis Hope. In 2012, I graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle with an M.S. in Human Centered Design & Engineering.

I am currently living in Chicago and working on research related to older adult use and non-use of social media with Professor Anne Marie Piper at Northwestern University. Next Fall, I am relocating to Boston to join the MIT Media Lab graduate program. I am supported by an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship.

My background is in design and human-computer interaction, with an emphasis on conducting design-oriented fieldwork. I have worked on projects in a variety of domains, including public health, mental health, education, and civics. I have conducted fieldwork in Uganda and Kenya as part of a multi-year project to design, develop, and test a low-cost, portable ultrasound machine for clinicians in low-resource environments. This project was advised by Professor Beth Kolko and Dr. Robert Nathan.

I have taught a number of undergraduate courses, including User Experience Design, Technical Communication, and Human-Computer Interaction.

In my free time, I sing in a band, play guitar, take pictures, tinker with electronics, and watch too much Star Trek.
